Koka Lagoon Cruises is a locally family owned business. Born and bred in Rarotonga, its owners Conrad & Bobby Hunter grew up in Muri, snorkelling and fishing in the lagoon. They are now raising their families in this environment.
As a small family run business we are passionate about what we do and strive to deliver each and every guest that comes onboard the best value experience on Rarotonga. Our crew aim to provide visitors to our island a memorable and enjoyable experience of beautiful Muri lagoon with education, fun and entertainment. We also aim to do our part to ensure our lagoon is preserved for the enjoyment of future generations. A respect for the environment and safety underpins everything we do.
Captain Bligh (Bob) heads our friendly crew and makes sure everything is running smoothly. Our multi-talented crew include a few who have been with us from the beginning: Captain Awesome (Papa Jack) our champion coconut tree climber from the island of Pukapuka, jack of all trades including ukulele playing, weaving, Maori medicine, and anything traditional. His sidekick Captain Amazing (Tairi) is also a deft hand on the ukulele, and pretty impressive up the coconut tree also. Captain Cook (Papa Toru), head honcho of the string band, is also our chef extraordinaire, ensuring guests are served up with the most delicious fresh fish off the bbq, and we have a few more talented captains who add to the awesome stringband entertainment, and ensure everyone is well looked after on the tour. We also have our vaka mermaid Terito who adds to the crew dynamics and also looks after our coral project. On land we have Serena our friendly manager, and Ami the "mother" of the crew, who makes sure everything is running smoothly onshore.
"Great to be out on the water with a crew so enthusiastic and passionate about the product and service for which they delivered!"
Built by Conrad and Bob at the family steel workshop using ideas gleaned from the internet, both the Reva Moana and Tai Marino are beautiful boats, with local motifs along the side, roomy interiors, beautiful carved Tangaroa at the bow, aluminium framing and natural roofing. Built with the comfort and safety of guests in mind, with hand railings along the bottom outside the boat for those in the water, ladders for easy access in and out of the water, and ramp for easy access from the beach. The boats are wheelchair compatible and elderly/child friendly. The Reva Moana also has onboard lighting for the sunset cruises. The Reva Moana can seat 35 guests, and the Tai Marino can seat 55 guests comfortably.
