About Koka Lagoon Cruises

Family Business

Koka Lagoon Cruises is a locally family owned business. Born and bred in Rarotonga, its owners Conrad & Bobby Hunter grew up in Muri, snorkelling and fishing in the lagoon. They are now raising their families in this environment.  The business started in 2010 working out of a container office and with one boat the Reva Moana.  The business expanded in April 2014 with the addition of a 2nd boat the Tai Marino, and in September 2016 the business blessed the opening of its beautiful new office building.  In 2019 the company blessed its beautiful new boat Te Tiare Vaitea.

Our Mission

As a family run business we are passionate about what we do and strive to deliver each and every guest that comes onboard the best value experience on Rarotonga. Our crew aim to provide visitors to our island a memorable and enjoyable experience of beautiful Muri lagoon with education, fun and entertainment. We also aim to do our part to ensure our lagoon is preserved for the enjoyment of future generations. A respect for the environment and safety underpins everything we do.

The Crew

Our multi-talented crew will ensure you are entertained and looked after during your day with us.  Our captains are led by Captain Awesome (aka Papa Jack) who has been with us from the beginning, a well known personality here in Rarotonga, and he heads our awesome crew, who are great entertainers sharing their love of our culture, and providing a genuinely enjoyable experience.  Our crew are the reason we are highly rated as a top tour experience, winning the 2016/17 Cook Islands Tourism Awards Visitor Experience/Customer Care Award, and culminating in winning the 2020 Air NZ Supreme Award, as well as the Visitor Experience Award.

"Great to be out on the water with a crew so enthusiastic and passionate about the product and service for which they delivered!"

Our Boats

Built by Conrad and Bob at the family steel workshop, the Tai Marino and Te Tiare Vaitea are beautiful boats, with local motifs along the side, roomy interiors, beautiful carved Tangaroa at the bow, aluminium framing and natural roofing. Built with the comfort and safety of guests in mind, with hand railings along the bottom outside the boat for those in the water, ladders for easy access in and out of the water, and ramp for easy access from the beach. The boats are wheelchair compatible and elderly/child friendly. The two boats can seat around 40 guests each comfortably.
